I have a Capresso burr coffee grinder. It's still going strong after about 15 years. It costs just shy of $100 and it's infinitely better than a blade "grinder" (Which slices coffee beans, rather than crushes them as a burr grinder does). In this video, coffee expert James Hoffman looks at five different burr grinders costing around £50 ($65). Spoiler: he thinks these are all terrible. The sound of the grinders alone is enough to hate them, but the static electricity buildup (which makes it hard to remove the ground coffee from the collection cup) is also offputting. Hoffman says save your money and buy something better.
Is it worth buying an inexpensive burr coffee grinder?
