Leica's SL3-P loses the dot, gets 8K open-gate video

The Leica SL3-P is its new full-frame mirrorless camera, landing in the middle of the L-mount SL line with a 44-megapixel sensor, plain black controls and no red dot. As discreet as a $7k-ish camera might be, then, it's aimed at working photogs in need of multishot frame-stacking, 14 stops of dynamic range, 8K open-gate video, and 5-axis stabilisation.

ISO runs from 50 to 200,000. There's a new hybrid autofocus system and the 8K footage tops out at 24 or 30 fps, 5.9K at 60 fps and 4K at 120 fps, with ProRes capture to 5.8K and L-Log grading. The magnesium-and-aluminum body carries IP54 splash sealing, dual SD and CFexpress Type B slots, and HDMI 2.1. It weighs about 1.7 pounds, according to the spec sheet.

The SL3-P is priced $6,690, body only, available worldwide today from Leica stores and dealers; kits start at $7,795. This undercuts the 60-megapixel SL3, launched in 2024, but not by much. The 24-megapixel SL3-S, added in early 2025, leans toward speed and low light. If all this sounds nice but too pricey, there's always the Panasonic counterparts.
