Newsweek is running Rudy Rucker's entertaining essay about synthetic biology.
The fact that the SynBio organisms are likely to have simplified Tinkertoy DNA doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be faster and better. It's more likely that they'll be dumber and less adaptable.

I've always loved author Rudy Rucker's artwork. In fact, he drew some cartoons for the early issues of bOING bOING (the print zine) in the late 1980s.
He's also a painter, and he just posted a long entry on his blog about his paintings and his process of getting them made into prints. — Read the rest

NPR science fiction reporter par excellence Rick Kleffel has just posted an MP3 of his interview with cyberpunk legend Rudy Rucker. I love Rudy's books — his latest, Mathematicians in Love is one of the greatest nerd-hero sf novels I've read, a mindbending trip through the math of interdimensional travel. — Read the rest
The second issue of Rudy Rucker's webzine, Flurb, has stories by Anders, Laidlaw, Kadrey, Rucker, Shirley, and Stross.
So here we go with a new issue of FLURB. I was waiting till I had gotten around to writing a story that would be just about impossible to commercially market, and now I think I've done it.

Rudy Rucker is back from his trip to New Zealand and has been blogging about it.
I saw a lot of Charles F. Goldie's paintings in Auckland and another Goldie painting in Wellington and another in Christchurch; Goldie (1870-1947) painted Maoris with full facial tattoos, these tattoos are called moko or ta moko… Note that the moko are relatively recent, only really took off after the Europeans showed up in the 1830s, as then the Maori had metal chisels so they could carve the moko in better.

Great news! One of my all time favorite writers, Rudy Rucker, has launched a new web zine, called FLURB.
My present strategy is simply to post a few stories by myself and my friends. I have some good stories for Issue #1, with possibly a few more coming in.

Rudy Rucker sez, "I'm back from being offline 3 weeks in Micronesia and I'm blogging 20,000 words of notes and a bunch of photos, maybe you could mention it on bOING so my old reader know I'm active again. Today a topless (but dressed) girl with a pet bat chewing betelnut…"

Rudy Rucker sez, "Here's an interesting blog entry about conotoxins, cellular automata, and the new drug Prialt."
