Matt sez, "The guy behind one of my favorite web comics, Dr McNinja, did this awesome tshirt design wherein Mario's world is de-cartooned and amped up. Yoshi is a scary dinosaur with a monstrous tongue, goombas look like acid visions of mushrooms and the piranha plants have shark-like teeth."

Warrior Plumbers T-Shirt (Thanks, Matt!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

are you sure the goombas don’t look like… *mushroom* visions of mushrooms?

  • Takuan

dammit! it’s happening again…I’m sure that raptor is from somewhere… there are only so many ways to draw things just as there is a finite number of musical figures…

  • Takuan

a short story about a planet of robot dinosaurs?..

  • A New Challenger

Mario can’t shoot fireballs while riding Yoshi. FAILURE.

Kidding of course. This is a great rendering without going as far into the disturbing territory as some other reimaginings. Not that I dislike those either.

  • Daemon

Actually, what scares me is that Yoshi’s arms seem to be green coloured human limbs that have been surgically grafted onto the dino-thing.

  • Takuan

    …from the style… maybe Galaxy… late 70′s…

  • adonai

Still falls behind The People’s Mario, but is pretty cool nonetheless.

Yeah, everytime I look at the picture, my eyes keep getting drawn to the trex with hands instead of claws. it weirds me out a bit.

This is my dream. This is my nightmare.

The de-cartooned Mario & Luigi remind me of a Perry Bible Fellowship comic from a while ago.

Like Mario’s Bros retold by someone who has never played a video game!

    Nice!

Dunno. I’ve always thought of Yoshi as a Nanotyrannus, or at least a juvenile tyrannosaurid, rather than a Utahraptor. He’s never struck me as being particularly dromeosaurid in any way.

This is remix of an early DragonBall manga cover, IIRC
