Hello, I am a ukulele player I lives in Tokyo , Japan.
This ukulele is "Cake ukulele" I decorated.
It might be tasty. But I can not eat.
This cream is Imitation and
ice cream is made of clay.
This ukulele can be good played.
I played "Crazy G" with this cake ukulele.

Thanks Mark! This is the best infection I’ve ever had!

  • Ernunnos

I approve of these posts, but why no love for the banjolele? If you’re going to go for cute girls with silly instruments, no point in stopping half way!

@#7 I think the further you get from Hawaii, the more quaint and cute the ukulele seems. Luckily for most of you, the entire continental united states is far from Hawaii. I think I am underwhelmed by it in the same way that someone who lived in africa for a while was probably underwhelmed with Paul Simon when Graceland came out.

For all of you that are lusting after ukuleles, the best commercial ukulele manufacturer in Maui when I lived there was http://www.meleukulele.com/ They have decent starter ukes at affordable prices that sound great and don’t need to be retuned every 4 minutes. They make nice guitars too (although I think I prefer my collings to anything I ever played there).

If you’ve played guitar, picking up the uke is about as tricky as picking up the bass guitar (ie, easy to at least fake- chords are simple, strings are floppy, and only 4 strings to manage).

I can’t wait until Mark switches from his current ukelele fetish to bagpipes.

  • Takuan

does anyone do death metal uke?

  • David Pescovitz

Mark’s had a uke fetish for almost as long as I’ve known him. But don’t worry too much, it’s an infectious fetish.

    Hey Mark,

I’ve enjoyed your Ukulele videos for a long time now. I think you and Youtube has really started a new trend in Ukulele appreciation.
I don’t know if you saw any video by sweetafton23 on Youtube or not. I particularly love her cover of Jonathan Coulton’s Tom Cruise Crazy and think you might enjoy it as well.
Ukulele + Jonathan Coulton = Win.

    ukes and bagpipes go together

  • artbot

    Once again,

Cute Girl + Uke = The New Steampunk!

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  • MichelleMcCormack

    She is really good!

  • Jake von Slatt

What a delightful meme you have going here Mark!

I’m thinking it might just be time to get myself a Ukulele. Does anyone know if there are good quality kits available?

  • Bathblogger

I am getting an ukelele very soon. And soon will be posting, dedicated to you,

      Bathblogger,

Your blog link can go on your profile page. Thanks.

  • jimbuck

You guys beat me to it – there’s an unhealthy obsession with the uke here. Maybe it’s a West Coast thing – being close to Hawaii than the non uke lovers on the East Coast.

  • doggo

    Adorable!

  • davevontexas

I am in love. This is beyond awesome.

  • Takuan

    YAY! caek ukereiri!

Folks have had success with this kit from Grizzly:

    Best to buy one, though.

I’m beginning to get the impression that I should have bought a ukulele instead of a guitar last year – like I’m missing the next hot musical trend or something.

Not that me missing any sort of trend, musical or not, would be anything new and noteworthy.

  • gtron

this woman deserves BB find of the year –
    cutegirlUke+selfmadedecorativecakeUke+Nihonglish all together?! damn

  • pinehead

Cute uke, and the last bit with “YAY, CAKE UKELELE! OOWAAHH” make me laugh. :D

  • SC_Wolf

    The ukulele is a lie?

  • eustace

I’ve gotta second Adam Stanhope’s sentiments above, (and those who posted after). I find myself dreaming of a ukelele-playing harem these days. We owe you, Mark.

  • Adam Stanhope

I love the “pretty girl playing ukulele” posts, Mark. I fall in love with every one of them. Imagine if my wife only knew, way back when, that the direct path to my heart was through a competently-played ukulele song by a pretty girl. We might have saved the expense and hardship of several years of courting.

    I certainly had no idea.

  • holtt

You know this is just going to lead to bukakulele fetish films.

  • That Evening Sun

    I like her. She’s silly.
