Bydiddo's custom wetsuits come in a variety of retro Kai's Powertools textures, as well as smashing skinless anatomical diagram and fake-shark-bite. I dive a couple times a year and always rent my wetsuits. I'm finally considering buying one -- these are great.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

all any great white is looking at for the final rush is the little seal flippers hanging over the seal-body shaped surf board.

  • Lobster

I don’t know… It’s a cute idea but I could see this distracting lifeguards from real problems or even creating panic.

  • weatherman

I love the idea of more artistic wetsuits. Okay, so the sharkbite one is a bit dramatic, but the other
The other designs are great. I’m particularly interested in the steampunk one; “The first edition contains four original designs: a rusted iron diving suit evoking the days of Jules Verne…”

Wait, Sharks still have eyes right?!

  • Takuan

does a dark dorsal/light ventral wetsuit make you look like dinner? Or is it using the camo of millions of years of evolution?

  • nanuq

“I don’t know… It’s a cute idea but I could see this distracting lifeguards from real problems or even creating panic.”

Maybe it would trick sharks into avoiding you? Thinking that another shark has already marked its territory might make you safer.

  • cinemajay

@2, I’m with you. It’s trying a little too hard.

  • Ribena

Will you still be laughing when your standing next to someone who has been bitten. nah didnt think so.

  • dainel

#5 Nanuq, that’s not going to work. All those freeding frenzies we’ve seen TV tells us that no shark is so polite at dinner. It will tell the other sharks, “Here’s dinner, come get (another) bite”.

  • Anonymous

What if you really get bit?

  • Itsumishi

I’m pretty sure that a shark would not look at that wetsuit and think “hey that guys been bitten…” simply because there still wouldn’t be blood oozing out all through the water making that yummy blood smell.

  • Halloween Jack

They should really do nudie suits. Switch genders for extra credit!

  • Phikus

Whatever. I think this suit really bites.

    shark repellent through laughter?

#1Takuan- Huh. That’s the first time I’ve seen that photo large enough to notice it appears to be stitched together at the center. Not as impressive that way.

  • Takuan

that’s a magazine spine fold, the image is real.

  • Jack Daniel

If I were a shark I’d bite that dude’s smug ass just to make a point.

  • Anonymous

Better to spend the money on a better wetsuit.

  • Anonymous

Great, another way to desensitize people to emergency situations.

  • Phikus

The great irony would be is someone wearing such a suit were to actually be bitten by sharks. A lifeguard who had seen this person previously would be inclined to ignore their injuries.

  • Anonymous

When I saw the muscle one I was hoping that it would be a slim goodbody wetsuit but alas, it was not.

  • Anonymous

    I reckon this is stupid
    1. Many fellow surfers/lifeguards seeing you will initially get a shock (hohoho i tricked you good d00d!)
    2. My guess is that a shark seeing this will be fooled that you have already been attacked and injured, hence are easier prey …. why not add pump-action blood squirters for teh 3xtra ultimaet cool effex!!!!!!!1

  • freeenterprisechic micjiffy

That would scare the little kids causing a change to the H+O2 as seen below.
