Time lapse of mural painting for LA store Q Pop

Artist Kevin Dart (creator of the 1960s Japanese spy girl, Yuki 7) says:

I wanted to let you know about a really cool new shop that my friend just opened in Little Tokyo. It’s called Q Pop and it’s got the craziest selection of toys, clothes, books, art, music, and everything else from Thailand, Japan, and Los Angeles. They’re also going to start having gallery shows in the new year. The owner, Chris Mitchell, is a longtime animation veteran and super pop culture geek, and he can tell you the story behind every piece in the shop!

The address for the store is 128 Astronaut E S Onizuka St, Los Angeles CA 90012 (right by the space shuttle statue outside Weller Court), and you can follow their blog.

Also me, my wife, and my friend Chris Turnham painted murals at the shop the other week.  Here’s a little video following our progress.

  1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Kevin Dart is all sorts of awesome.

If you’re not watching Symbionic Titans (he does some of the background painting) on the cartoon channel you are missing out.

His lovely wife, Elizabeth and Chris T ain’t no slouches either.

  2. The masking on that is fascinating. I don’t know why the idea of masking amazes me, but it does. You tear the tape/mask off and ta-dah!

  3. the band is the incomparable Los Campesinos! and the song is “International Tweexcore Underground”

thanks for all the nice comments!
