B3ta user Limpfish's "Lossie" graphic is great JPEG artifact humor -- and other B3tans took up the challenge with similarly altered movie posters.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

    Dead link sorry guys.

  • Warren_Terra

As Itsumishi noted, the link is messed up; this is apparently the correct one.

While I’m picking nits, there’s a word missing after “similarly”.

    • dagfooyo

I noticed that too.  Cory accidentally a whole word.

You say there’s someone fallen in the minecraft Lossie?

  • dagfooyo

I’d love to see a video verson of this.  I imagine Lossie’s bark would sound like an 11 kbps mp3.

  • Cornan_KotW

This is glorious. Thanks for the laugh.

I’m sorry, but I don’t get it.  What/who is Lossie?  Why is this funny?

I’m sorry, but I don’t get it. What/who is Lossie? Why is this funny?

Lassie is a well-known canine hero of films and TV.

JPEG is a lossy (ie, some data is sacrificed for smaller size) image-compression method.

The image of Lassie has been isolated and modified using a lossy-compression technique, hence, “Lossie.”

      What a degrading experience.

      • Tony

Ah, I see.  I know who/what Lassie is, I was just confused on the Lossie-thing.  Thank you for the identification and explanation of the lossy-compression technique.

This one’s for the people who spell loser “looser”.  I dub thee “losser”.
