JPEG artifact humor

B3ta user Limpfish's "Lossie" graphic is great JPEG artifact humor -- and other B3tans took up the challenge with similarly altered movie posters.

  1. I’d love to see a video verson of this.  I imagine Lossie’s bark would sound like an 11 kbps mp3.

    1. I’m sorry, but I don’t get it. What/who is Lossie? Why is this funny?

Lassie is a well-known canine hero of films and TV.

JPEG is a lossy (ie, some data is sacrificed for smaller size) image-compression method.

The image of Lassie has been isolated and modified using a lossy-compression technique, hence, “Lossie.”

      What a degrading experience.

      1. Ah, I see.  I know who/what Lassie is, I was just confused on the Lossie-thing.  Thank you for the identification and explanation of the lossy-compression technique.
