In this video announcing They Might Be Giants' next tour, the lads construct a gigantic pink monster truck hearse. And sing a fine song!

They Might Be Giants are going on tour across the United States starting January 27th in Santa Cruz. Jonathan Coulton opens. Full ticket info below! The song is When Will You Die? from TMBGs album Join Us, and this video was created by The Offices of Paul Sahre.

Here's instructions for making your own pink monster-truck papercraft hearse.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

I figured these guys would live in a palace.  They live in a *neighborhood*?  With garbage cans?  And multi-family houses?  Oh man, what a world.

  • edthehippie

ok , i am counting this as my “unicorn chaser ” for the sopa blackout !! kewlio indeed !! one of my all time favorite commercial bands !! thanks to the band and to cory for posting this !! i feel much better now !!

  • GertaLives

The post implies TMBG are the ones building the hearse, but I don’t think that’s the case. Is it?

    • awjt

Well, I was suckered too.  Oh well, succor to the suckers.

I’m pretty sure the folks in this video haven’t even been alive as long as TMBG has been a band (their 30th anniversary is this year!)

I highly recommend the live show. These guys are really fun in concert and the bonus of Johnathan Coulton opening gave me a nerd-gasm.

Yep! Caught them the last time around, too! Coulton signed a pick for me :)

  • Palomino

Wow, Malcolm In the Middle.  I never bothered looking them up, and I love that theme song.

  • Cybe

Wait, the tour starts next week? Which TMBG and Jonathan Coulton did I see in DC in November then?

This is the best They Might be Giants I’ve heard/seen since the days when it was only John and John. OMG! I love this! TMBG freak for 21 years and *gasming atm. SEE THEM LIVE! It is not optional for a fully cultured Happy Mutant IMHO. Even when I wasn’t digging their records, I couldn’t wait for a show. It’s personal taste of course, but I loved the days of an Accordian, guitar, drum machine, and a Roland SH-101 as performed by one of it’s greatest programmers. John Linnell is still one of the most underrated genius of electronic music, as far as I’m concerned, and Flansburgh is the Geek for all Seasons on his instruments. Thank you Cory, I may have not noticed this little gem.
