HOWTO make glowing Converse

The good people at Adafruit have an easy way to make your Chucks glow!

Make your logo light up with this simple Converse sneaker mod. All you need is EL panel and an inverter tucked into the tongue of your shoe to get the stars in your Chuck Taylors glowing. Two styles!

Glowing Star Chuck Taylor Sneakers

  1. How thick is the EL panel? Has anybody tried cutting with a vinyl plotter? You could get some really nice intricasies if it worked.

me<—-doesn't know how to use teh g00glez.

    1. 0.34mm. I tried cutting it with my Silhouette for my Glowing Super Bowl Helmets project (I know you can google it), but it’s pretty dense and strained the machine, I’m sure it’s not great for the blade either… Maybe with a more industrial-level vinyl cutter you’d have better luck.

  2. very cool! I’m not usually that into wearable electronics for fashion, but these are subtle and tasteful.

  3. I was recently at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, and as I was getting out of the car a young family parked next to me with diplomatic plates – I later found out the guy works at the Russian consulate in New York City and was presumably on vacation with his family checking out national parks and such.

The young daughter was wearing those shoes that flash brightly when you walk that were cool for a few years when I was a kid (in the 90’s). Cute kid, but kind of annoying during a tour of a dark cave.

  4. I would have given anything to have my black, hightop Cons glow in 1966!
The closest I could get was florescent orange shoe laces :)
