Moog just unveiled a new showcase of artists using their instruments. Sonic Origins starts things off with Russell E.L. Butler of Black Jeans, who thinks of the sounds "as an initiator of dialogue."
Today we debut Sonic Origins, a new video series that seeks to unearth the underlying elements of artistic identity. The series kicks off with Oakland-based producer Russell E.L. Butler. Here, Butler takes pause to reflect on ancestral inspirations, the interconnections of varied identity consciousnesses, and, ultimately, music as self-liberation. For the filming of the first 'Sonic Origins', Russell incorporated four Mother-32's to construct a hard-hitting modular session titled "Sirens From a Distance".
Butler recently dropped a track inspired by the Ghost Ship tragedy.
