For art teacher Michael Fry of Mamaroneck, New York, certain 2017 trends need to be dead and buried. So, for the past few Halloweens, he's made tombstone lawn decorations that lay specific trends to rest.
This year it's "so long!" to ombre hair, the hashtag #roséallday, the "old Taylor Swift," homemade slime, and more.
“Things from that year that have either died, or are dying or are no longer fashionable or no longer hip,” said Fry. “Being a teacher, I get input from my students and friends and family members, and it’s become a collaborative effort.”
The gravestone for homemade slime is “wishful thinking,” though, because “teachers can’t stand it,” Fry said.
Others include paying homage to watching television live and having normal seasons, presumably a dig at global warming.
Adios, dabbing. We won't miss you.

It’s an annual tradition–Sai Mokhtari photographs the New York subway on Halloween. Take a scroll through hundreds of photos from the last few years. Yes there are lots of Suicide Squad characters, but there’s also a living bodega, Billy Mitchell from King Of Kong, Joanne the Scammer, and a woman dressed as the entire Zola […]
This Bob Ross “painted” happy little trees onto their partner’s face all evening. I’ve lived in Alameda, California going on 10 years now and I’m always surprised by what I see on Halloween night — it’s a real circus! Each year, thousands of revelers head to my neighborhood in the Fernside district to trick or […]
Pete Tridish and pals made a hell of a Hallowe'en haunt this year: on their "porch of doom," trick-or-treaters were sent to a Mars colonized by billionaires where they were expected to mine Mars rocks and put them in Amazon Mars boxes at a sweatshop Amazon Mars warehouse; Pete notes that the haunt was partly […]
If you’ve ever had any musical aspirations — or even if your talent extends no further than turning on the radio — you’ve probably dreamed the “impossible” dream. You dream that maybe you could record some of your songs at home, post them online, build an armada of fan support, attract major label attention and […]
If you’re charting the fortunes of a business, one glance at the right columns can instantly detail that company’s health. For wine lovers around the world, it’s all about discovery. Once they get a taste for the grape, oenophiles are rarely satisfied with even the most carefully curated, go-to vintages. There’s always a hunt for the next great pairing, the thrill of uncorking a bold new Tempranillo or sublime Moscato. That feeling is a jones […]
