Here's a confounding topological curiosity

This topological magic trick was so controversial that the YouTube comments were turned off. As you can see in the short video, a figure-8 shaped object made from clay has a stick going through one of the loops. Is it possible to make the stick go through both loops without breaking a loop (and without using the end of the stick)? The claymation video makes it seem like you can.
