In May of 2021, in response to comments by South Carolina Senator Tim Scott that the United States was not a racist country, Tiffany D. Cross from MSNBC's "Cross Connection" offered this advice, "Don't argue with people Harriet Tubman would have left behind." This provocative statement asks the reader/listener to contemplate what Harriet Tubman considered when choosing whom to support getting free and whom to leave behind. It begs two other questions: who would help Tubman today? Who is haunted by the ghost of John Brown? The entire statement from Cross Connection is worth watching here.
