Trump phones were sent out to reviewers, but today The Verge's Dominic Preston reports that they are the only models shown to exist. "The Trump phone is not here," he writes, despite the company having claimed it was shipping them.
Last week Trump Mobile announced that the T1 Phone was ready to start shipping by the end of the week. Almost two weeks later, there's no sign that's actually happened — and the company still hasn't shipped either of the two phones ordered by The Verge. Depending on where you get your news, you might believe the company when it says the phone has now launched: The phone is "here" according to Newsweek, has "finally released" according to The Daily Beast, and is now "shipping" according to Reuters.
It's been a sorry series of events for Trump Mobile. The device was first promised as a made-in-America smartphone (not likely at any price, let alone $500) then seen in a mockup as a Samsung clone, as it missed deadline after deadline. Now it finally shows up as an Alibaba knockoff of a two-year-old mid-range HTC device. Asking $500 for it was a liberty, to say the least. And the company has yet to ask those who have already paid deposits for their addresses.
It's a shame Vertu no longer exists! They'd have nailed "Trump phone" perfectly.
