27,224 people pre-ordered the Trump Phone

The Trump Phone was supposed to be made in America, but ended up being a white-label knockoff of something or other. If it finally exists (if not as a shipping product quite yet), the talent behind it might want to work on their security skills: a security flaw on the official website exposed personal information of those who filled out a pre-order form. And now we know how many people that was:27,224.

"Based on the available information, we have not identified evidence that Trump Mobile's systems, infrastructure, or network were directly compromised. The investigation remains ongoing," the company said in response to questions from the Guardian about the issue.

"At this time, the incident does not appear to involve Trump Mobile payment card information, banking information, Social Security numbers, call records, text messages, or other highly sensitive financial data. At this time, the impacted information appears to be limited to certain customer details, including names, email addresses, mailing addresses, order identifiers and mobile phone numbers."

Séamus reported that the company didn't seem committed to even notifying customers, and even now it doesn't seem to be taking it particularly seriously: "customers should remain alert for any suspicious emails, calls or text messages regarding their order."

As "your phone is shipping!" would be the most suspicious thing Trump Mobile might say to a customer, perhaps more robust notification systems would be a good idea. At $500 a pop, that waitlist is good for $13m and change: not exactly the sort of money Trump expects to see.

[Trump Mobile CEO Pat] O'Brien would not confirm how many preorders there had been and told USA Today that Trump Mobile was "incredibly pleased" with the interest in its products.

The phones are, O'Brien says, "starting to be shipped."
