WATCH: model plane + box kite + LEDs = glow kite

FliteTest tracked down a father-son team who spent five years perfecting their remote-controlled box kite prototype, a plane/kite mashup. They demonstrate two of them below:

This is harder than it looks, because these devices tend to porpoise (vertical fish-tail) if the weight is not distributed just right. Adding a tail helped stabilize it, allowing for control even in a light breeze.

Some 3D printing enthusiasts are already offering to help mass-produce a short kit so others can try these out.
