"101 degrees in the shade..."
It's been hot in the Bay Area and I was joking with a friend that we should take the "Nestea Plunge." They had no idea what I was talking about which surprised me, given the iconic ad campaign ran from the 1970s through the 1990s (and came back in 2014).
I grew up on Cape Cod, so we didn't have a pool, we just went to the beach when it was hot. For hours, my friends and I would put our arms out and fall backwards into the Atlantic, trying to reenact the Plunge we saw on TV. It was like an in-water trust fall with only the waves to catch you.
Cripes, you all remember it, don't you? Surely it's just an anomaly that my friend didn't know about it.
"Temperature was up around 103..."
"The temperature was up around 111..."
"Come on, taste the taste of wetness..."
Even legendary groupie Pamela Des Barres took the Nestea Plunge
They're *still* taking the Plunge in the Philippines
CNBC’s Megan Graham set up a website full of scraped news from other sites. Most ad networks she submitted it to approved it for ad placement. I only put a few hours of work into this site, but I don’t do this for a living. Real bad actors can get a lot farther than this […]
Hirviöt (“monster”), was a 2012 public service announcement from Finland in which the adults have been day drinking. It asks: how different are you drunk? The ad was quite effective, as you can see; there’s an article about it at CBS News. A 2009 study found alcohol to be the number one killer of Finnish […]
This ad features Raphael, the teenage mutant ninja turtle, brandishing pickles. It’s not a perfectly on-model Raph — one commenter at YouTube describes it as “my sleep paralysis demon” — but he’s perfect for the mood of the scene. This is also a good entry in the history of advertisements described as “banned” that obviously […]
For all their amazing growth over the past 25 years, the most impressive thing about the monumental rise of Amazon might be the speed and sophistication of their lightning-fast delivery network. Sometimes it doesn’t even take 24 hours for the idea you ordered to be perched right on your front porch, ready for use. The […]
You could actually watch a Tyrannosaurus Rex walk down your street right now. And no, this isn’t the latest Jurassic Park sequel. Of course, it isn’t real either, just a Google recreation of some pretty realistic looking dinosaurs transplanted right into any environment around you courtesy of augmented reality. Yet it’s just another example of […]
A guy on the Apple discussion forum started a thread titled, “Why do your Charger Cables have the lifespan of a housefly?” That question is probably enough to elicit a whole bunch of head nods from virtually everyone reading this, whether you’re an iPhone user, an Android owner or have virtually any device that needs […]
