Ice-cream-obsessed senior dog proves that the sweet treat is the key to longevity!

A sweet ice-cream-obsessed senior dog is giving me so much joy today! Meet Edward, a super cute senior gray bully mix with adorable little white "socks" on his feet. Edward is a "fospice" (foster + hospice) pup who was ten years old when he arrived at a local animal shelter. The poor boy was riddled with arthritis, bad teeth, a bent spine, and mobility and neurological issues. His human, Lindsay, adopted him and the shelter told her he'd probably only live another six or twelve months.

He settled in nicely with his new family, but was on the decline until the day he encountered his neighborhood ice cream truck and had his very first frozen pup cup. Ever since, he eagerly awaits the truck, which comes a couple of times a week. As the truck approaches and he hears its tell-tale music, he makes the trek across the yard to greet it. Although it's a small yard, he moves slowly, taking about a minute to get to the street — but it's the fastest he moves at any time during the week. When he gets to the truck, he's always first in line. He always looks so happy as he licks and gulps down his special treat! He clearly loves ice cream!

In addition to his regular ice cream habit, Edward also loves cuddling with his family and cooling off in his yard with the sprinkler hose. Here he is in his little Stitch hat (from Lilo and Stitch) looking just about as cute as can be, enjoy the water.

Thanks to massages, acupuncture, regular vet visits, lots of love from his family and, of course, frequent cones from the ice cream truck, Edward is now twelve years old and thriving, 27 months after being adopted! He has clearly proven that ice cream is the secret to longevity!

Edward's human mom explains that he "just reminds you to enjoy the little things." I think it's a lovely reminder that we can all use in these times. Thanks, Edward!
