New York Comic-Con is full of motley fans cosplaying as their favorite characters. I was alarmed, however, to find that inadequate precautions have been taken to protect conference-goers from poltergeists, apparitions and other paranormal entities. I hope the organizers will step up to the plate with an official response to the ectoplasmic menace and get rid of these unwelcome freelancers. (Mike Brown, left, and Josh Hollifield)<

At The Awl, Matthew Phelan created something wonderful: the text to go with a fake cover article from The Atlantic, "The Politics Of The Next Dimension: Do Ghosts Have Civil Rights?", that appeared for barely a moment during a montage during 1984's Ghostbusters.
Until the beginning of the current fall semester—when Columbia University abruptly shuttered its psychology department's program in paranormal studies—Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stantz and Dr. Peter Venkman had been conducting research into extra-sensory perception and recurring manifestations of what they call vaporous apparitions and psychokinetic activity. "Psychics, ghosts, floating stuff, to the lay person. But to us it's way more technical," Dr. Venkman explains, half ignoring me as he rifles through the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet, then fixing me with a cold stare. In an item that actually has nothing to do with the "development hellish" Ghostbusters 3, Deadline is reporting that director Ivan Reitman will be directing the "reboot" (that's what they're calling it here) beginning next summer. If you've been keeping track, this is the second Ghostbusters 3-related item in a row to report this without any contradicting statements by Bill Murray. So, if a third story comes up stating that he won't be involved, expect Bill Murray to show up at a kickball game somewhere and say "It's showtime!" (via Deadline) Read the rest
We all know that Ghostbusters 3 is not going to happen, because Bill Murray will waffle back and forth until everyone is dead and no one will be able to do the movie with actual ghosts. But that doesn't mean we can't report on new developments about it. It's like hearing your really fun cousin, Dan Aykroyd, talking about the awesome band he's in. It mysteriously never, ever seems to produce any kind of music, but he's having a great time talking about it.
And this time, he's talking about the "awesome new writer" they got to write songs for them: Etan Cohen, who wrote Tropic Thunder, Idiocracy, and Men In Black 3, has been hired to write a script for Ghostbusters 3.
Oh wait, I just realized that covering this movie amounts to insanity. Read the rest
