ThinkGeek's Star Trek onesies are a great change from the boring old Bob the Builder and Disney Princess junk you'll get heaped on you the second your kid emerges. I love that they have a redshirt version (for expendable babies!).

USS Warehouse Captain in Training (via Wonderland)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

The technology that links taxonomy and Star Trek

Is the beautiful model included in the purchase price?

  • IronEdithKidd

I’d have to get one as a gift. $16 is way too much for any onesie – no matter how cute or how geeky. Unless it was StarWars. Then I would be compelled by the power of the dark side of the force to purchase.

  • LeFunk

Ernst is right, the badge just does not cut it.
Star Trek onesie should be able to absorb “dark matter”.

Surely you wouldn’t want to give your baby a red shirt!

  • aeon

Bet they don’t sell so many red ones.

  • Ernst Gruengast

Just sticking a badge on a coloured body is not enough. They need to be long sleeved with the black collar detail. And then a “Next Generation” set with the black shoulder pieces.

    Best,

    ernst

I’ve been working on a new screen printing method using a laser cutter and stainless steel mesh. My test bed so far has mostly been dorky onesies, including things like the Pioneer 10 plaque, ArtBots logos, etc:

I agree with Ernst on the detailing. The above photo is pretty cute, though, with the Starfleet-captain-to-be gazing into a hopeful future… Or just gurgling at the plush Tribble the photographer is dangling…

According to ThinkGeek’s Twitter account, 11% of onesies sold are red. http://twitter.com/thinkgeek/status/5182761991

You have to wonder how popular they are as gifts.
