Etsy seller Bunnywithatoolbelt made this "white and walnut" abstract nativity that reminds me of Danish modern furniture crossed with classic starburst clocks.

Nativity Set - white and walnut (via Making Light)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Hm, I just see chocolates . . . (“Holy nuts and chews, God-Man!”)

    That’s some good stuff.

    Which one is the Dalek?

    Evidently a post-Giotto depiction.

Should this be construed as an endorsement or recommendation? What if I purchase one and it does not meet my expectations?

Send it back. Jesus Christ, were you born in a barn?

      • Eryq Ouithaqueue

I see what you did there. :-)

That Mary always had a big head. Mother of the messiah and all.

    • RobDobbs

That’s Joseph, he was very short.

So was Christ. (According to the BBC, and this:http://www.religionfacts.com/jesus/image_gallery/230_dura_europos.htm <-It's near where I live!)

Otherwise, it reminds me of the way I used to (as a kid) make Nativity scenes out of anything: colored pipe cleaners, etc. There also was a Lutheran Church nearby (now sadly, closed) that had a groovy Abstract Nativity that fascinated me every December when Mamie and I used to get donuts from the non-Dunkin bakery…

OK, so I see 3 wise men, an angel, an ox and an ass, as well as, of course, the Main Players. But where are the shepherds? Where are the sheep? Or are those creatures sheep? In which case, where are the ox and the ass? Something missing here.

It’s not like there’s an IEEE standard for “components of a nativity scene”.

As a Christian who loves danish modern I can’t stop looking at this. I love it.

  • Godfree

Hilarious! That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen all week.

  • benher

At least for once the people in the nativity aren’t anglo-saxons.

  • OgilvyTheAstronomer

Hmmm… Beautiful. I think I could live in a world made of white and walnut.
