Law & Order & Food is a Tumblr with nothing but stills of the Law & Order cast eating, which is something they seem to do a lot of, because they're in NYC, which has some pretty badass takeout. Also: it's characterization.

Law & Order & Food (via MeFi)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

The numerous food scenes in L&O are actually more of an in joke about the culture in law enforcement than just a comment on NY. The way my dad explained it to me:

You spend the first few years (at least) of your career driving around in a sector car for 12 hours at a stretch without even the luxury of making your own coffee. So you tend to learn the best places to eat fairly quickly. Cops seem to love doughnuts (and do love doughnuts) so much because the doughnut shop is typically the only place open at 2am with decent coffee. If you work your way up to a more stationary job you take a love of take out and street food with you (also back problems).

So knowing the where the best food is, talking about it, and eating it becomes a major part of the culture. Compounded by the long working hours it spreads through out law enforcement.
