Ben and Jerry's Bernie Yearning flavor exists — sorta

Earlier this month, Ben "and Jerry's" Cohen spitballed with an MSNBC reporter about his idea for a Bernie Sanders ice-cream flavor: "Bernie's Yearning," a pint of mint with a disk of solid chocolate on the top, representing the fortunes of the 1%. Before you eat it, you use a spoon to smash the wealth and distribute it evenly through the pint.

Turns out Cohen went ahead and made 40 pints of the flavor, complete with packaging, and gave 25 to the Sanders campaign. He's holding a contest for the remaining 15 pints.

"Jerry and I have been constituents of Bernie Sanders for the last 30 years," Cohen said of the longtime Vermont senator. But he noted that his company with fellow co-founder Jerry Greenfield is not directly involved with the flavor.

"We've seen him and we believe him," he continued on a website touting the ice cream. "When we're out speaking on his behalf people always ask if there's a Ben and Jerry's flavor.

"There's not," Cohen added. "But if I were going to come up with one, this is what it would be."
