If you need a break from doom-scrolling, take a few minutes of your day to enjoy some videos featuring my new favorite internet doggo, a cute Tibetan Spaniel named Tilly who goes by the nickname "the friendly loaf."
Tilly was rescued by her human mom, Anna Marie, in 2019. She answered an ad for a litter of puppies that were being given away, but when she showed up, only one was left. She was told that the remaining puppy was "deformed" and that nobody wanted to adopt her. Anna Marie instantly fell in love with Tilly, who has short spine syndrome. Her vertebrae are compressed, which makes her look like she has no neck, and an unusually short back.
To me, she looks like something straight out of a cartoon — in the best, most adorable way possible. Someone online commented, "Which Pokémon is this?" — which also kind of sums up her vibe. She's also been likened to a baby Tasmanian Devil, a rotisserie chicken, and a frog, which are all somehow perfectly accurate. Also, check her out as a puppy — I've literally never seen anything cuter in my entire life.
On Tilly's first vet visit after being adopted, the veterinarian told Anna Marie that Tilly's spine wouldn't grow and she would probably only live three to five months. Well, Tilly defied the odds and just celebrated her seventh birthday!
In these past seven years, the eight-pound Tilly — who is about the size of a loaf of bread—has not only survived, she's thrived. She's had no health issues nor complications, and has adapted incredibly well to her circumstances. She can do pretty much everything any other doggo can do — she jumps, walks, fetches balls, and more. She's very sweet, and loves to snuggle up to her humans and sleep with them — with her head on the pillow and body tucked under the covers. She's also hilarious, as she loves "stalking" her kibble before going in for the "kill." The only thing she needs a little help with is getting on and off furniture, and scratching herself where she can't turn her head to reach.
Her social media explains that Tilly is "here to spread love and laughs," and boy does she. See more of Tilly the Friendly Loaf on her Instagram or YouTube.
