I love these official, licensed lumpy Super Mario cardigans, though at $400+ a pop, I probably won't be wearing one this winter.

  • Super Mario Crossover: the 8-bit retro mashup game
  • A not so super Mario cart

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

official….licensed……and @gloria, I think the Nepali or Chinese knitters would love anyone who paid them 10% more to knit these than the company who paid for the Nintendo licensing,so maybe about 50USD rather than 400USD? ANd I say that out of only profound respect and awe for knitters.

    • Gloria

Point granted. I spoke out of half a decade of annoyance when people ask me to make them a hat or sweater or scarf, presuming I’ll dedicate hours and hours of my time and muscle work out of charity.

And I’m just going to assume that Grey Devil doesn’t have easy access to cut-rate Nepali or Chinese labour. But GD can correct if I’m wrong!

      • IronEdithKidd

I started telling people that I would teach them how to knit so they can build their own garments. It works pretty well to shut them up. The ones who want to learn, I teach or hook up with a book called “knitting without tears”.

And you’ll need the cardigan to keep warm when you’re jobless and homeless because you crashed the economy by only buying cheap foreign-made products.

  • Grey Devil

Saw this earlier and i think that the cardigans are quite nice looking to be honest, and the Mario sprites are very nice. Though for 400 bucks i think it’d be easier to get someone to knit one.

    • Gloria

If you think you can convince someone to knit a full cardigan with a decorative pattern for less than $400 (for just labour, not to mention materials better than the cheapest acrylic yarn), you know someone who loves you very, very much.

Not Super Mario, but Mario from Donkey Kong.

    • Astragali

No, indeed… They ARE from Super Mario Bros.:

These just make me angry for some reason.

Know this… if I see you wearing one of these, I’m going to beat you up.

  • Anonymous

    i like it.

  • freshacconci

Learn to knit and you can probably make this for about half the cost (not including labour).

  • freshacconci

Or, in my case, marry someone who knows how to knit. So labour’s not an issue.
