Yesterday, I blogged a story and video about a UCLA student who refused to show ID to campus cops at Powell Library. The cops responded by grabbing him and repeatedly tasering him as he writhed on the floor in handcuffs, screaming alternatively in outrage and for mercy. — Read the rest

A researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is launching a study where he'll zap pigs with stun guns. Bioengineer John Webster is testing his hypothesis that the 50,000 volt shock by itself may not be as deadly as critics claim. From the Associated Press:
Webster suggested some of the Taser-related deaths were from a rare condition known as malignant hyperthermia, in which bodies essentially overheat.

Kristian White, 33, a police officer in New South Wales, Australia, is accused of tasing a 95-year-old woman suffering from dementia at a care home in Cooma. Clare Nowland "fell backwards and sustained fatal injuries" in the exonerative terminology used by the news story, but that happened while he was tasing her. — Read the rest

Carson City, Nevada arrested a custodian at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada who they allege was secretly living with his wife—a museum manager—and two young children inside the building. A DoorDash delivery driver, Delane Gordon, was stopped by a cop in Tennessee for allegedly speeding. When Gordon, who is Black, calmly said he didn't want to get out of the car because he felt uncomfortable, and asked to speak to the officer's supervisor, the cop grabbed him and aggressively tried to force him out of the car. — Read the rest

A St. Petersburg, Florida police officer has been fired for using a taser four times on a 64-year-old man in a wheelchair last June.
